• Lexus RC F likely teased in newly released photos
  • High-performance Lexus likely to boast V8, big power
  • Teaser image could also show upcoming GS F sedan

Lexus has officially shown a teaser photo of its next "F" performance car. The image, which shows a pronounced front fender finished in the Lexus brand's unique blue color, could preview a few Lexus models -- but it likely shows the brand's all-new RC F sports car.

According to Lexus, whichever vehicle the photo teases will appear at the Detroit Auto Show next month. That means we won't have to wait long to find out which car will soon be added to the automaker's high-performance F stable, which already gave us the sporty IS F in 2008. That model, which used a 416-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 and an 8-speed automatic, rivaled established performance vehicles such as the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

If the model shown is indeed the RC F, enthusiasts have every reason to be excited. The brand recently used the Tokyo Auto Show to unveil a hybrid version of the upcoming sports car, which boasts handsome coupe styling and rear-wheel drive. A performance-oriented F version will likely boast a huge power bump, styling revisions, suspension tuning and other items to make it faster and more exciting.

In its standard, non-F form, the RC will offer two versions. The 217-hp 2.5-liter RC 300h will offer hybrid power, while the 314-hp RC 350 will boast a little extra performance. The RC F would raise the performance stakes even higher, likely offering something in the 400-plus hp range.

There is some chance, however, that the F model Lexus has teased isn't the RC. The brand has hinted at an F version of its larger, rear-wheel-drive GS sedan for some time -- a vehicle that would rival performance sedans such as the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

Either way, we're excited to see a new high-performance Lexus -- especially if it's as exciting as the original IS F. That model added 100 hp to the already-sporty IS 350 and brought 0-to-60-mph times down to the mid-4-second range. In other words, if performance is your thing, you'll want to wait and see what Lexus has in store for the Detroit Auto Show.

What it means to you: The upcoming Lexus RC F promises to combine handsome styling and big power, assuming that's what Lexus plans to reveal in Detroit.
