What Is It?

The 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe is a sporty, 2-door version of the brand's popular ATS sedan, which debuted for the 2013 model year. The ATS Coupe looks to snag shoppers who don't necessarily need four doors but still want a luxurious car with excellent handling, equipment and technology.

On the outside, the ATS Coupe looks much as you'd expect: like a 2-door version of the ATS sedan. That means it includes the same pulled-back headlights, the same sharp-edge lines and the same large, chrome-trimmed grille. The ATS Coupe's interior is also similar to its sedan stablemate's cabin, with the obvious exception of a smaller back seat.

Under the hood, things in the ATS Coupe are a little different from the sedan. The sedan's base-level 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is dropped, leaving only a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6. The 2.0-liter turbo offers 272 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque (35 lb-ft more than the sedan), while the V6 boasts 321 hp and 275 lb-ft.

Although the ATS Coupe doesn't boast many new features compared to the sedan, it does let drivers liven things up. For instance, shoppers can choose an optional sport suspension with Magnetic Ride Control for improved handling. And there's an available 6-speed manual on 2.0-liter turbo models. Buyers can also specify all-wheel drive if they plan to use the ATS Coupe in a harsh climate where rear-wheel drive may not be optimal.

How Much?

We expect the 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe to be a little more expensive than its sedan counterpart. As such, expect base pricing of around $37,000 for the 2.0T model or $43,000 for the V6.

The Cadillac ATS sedan has received rave reviews for handsome styling, an excellent interior, cutting-edge technology and, most importantly, a driving experience that rivals the top German sport sedans. The coupe builds on those positive traits with a sportier look and feel. If you're considering a luxurious 2-door, the ATS coupe is at least worth a test drive -- even if you've never looked at a Cadillac before.

Other Cars to Consider

Audi A5 -- They say styling is subjective, but nearly everyone agrees Audi's 4-seat A5 coupe is beautiful. Unfortunately, power isn't on the ATS model's level, as Audi offers just one engine: a 220-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder. Still, if styling is your thing, the A5 is worth a look.

BMW 4 Series -- The all-new BMW 4 Series replaces last year's 3 Series Coupe. It offers traditional BMW styling and a high-end interior, but pricing will be above the ATS Coupe.

Infiniti Q60 -- Infiniti's sporty G37 Coupe is renamed "Q60" for the 2014 model year. Everything else remains mostly the same, including the coupe's beefy styling, muscular V6 and reasonable pricing.

Mercedes C-Class Coupe -- The C-Class Coupe comes in two tempting flavors, one with a 201-hp 4-cylinder and the other with a 302-hp V6. It's not as sporty as the Cadillac, but the Mercedes can hold its own in luxury and sleek styling.

Used Porsche Cayman -- If performance is what you're after, you may want to consider a lightly used Porsche Cayman. It doesn't offer the Cadillac's practicality, but for about the same money you get a mid-engine performance car that offers daily usability. It's a hard bargain to pass up.
