What Is It?

The 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition is a limited-production, special-edition version of the all-new 2015 Mustang. Compared to the standard Mustang, it offers several unique touches designed to celebrate the car's 50th anniversary since it made its original debut for the 1964-and-a-half model year.

On the outside, the 50 Year Limited Edition Mustang boasts several unique exterior touches compared to the regular model. There are louvered rear windows, for example, mimicking early Mustang models. There are also several unique chrome accents and one especially unusual touch: a faux gas cap on the rear fascia, paying homage to the gas-tank location in early Mustang models.

Changes to the interior are more dramatic, with Ford adding a host of cashmere-stitched accessories, ranging from the center console and shifter boot to the steering wheel and seats. All 50 Year Limited Edition models also boast unique "50th anniversary" logos and 2-tone upholstery.

Under the hood, shoppers will find the Mustang's 5.0-liter V8, which delivers 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Drivers can choose between an automatic or a manual transmission, though Ford says all 50 Year Limited Edition models will be coupes. The automaker also says it plans to limit production to 1,964 units, a nod to the original Mustang's first model year.

How Much?

Although Ford hasn't released pricing, we expect the 50 Year Mustang will carry a slight premium over a standard Mustang GT.

Add It to Your Shopping List Because...

The 2015 Ford Mustang is already turning heads because of its clean-sheet redesign and new features such as an available 4-cylinder engine and independent rear suspension. The 50 Year Limited Edition model only enhances its appeal, thanks to its unique trim and limited-production status. And if you need any other reason to put the 50th-anniversary Mustang on your shopping list, how about that torquey, muscular V8?

Other Cars to Consider

Chevrolet Camaro -- The Chevrolet Camaro has been a perennial challenger to the Mustang ever since it made its own debut in the 1960s. Like the Mustang, the Camaro offers head-turning styling and a powerful available V8 engine.

Dodge Challenger -- The Dodge Challenger offers an especially unique look thanks to retro styling that carefully mimics the original 1960s model. Visibility is difficult, however, and it's surprisingly large. Still, we love the look and the available V8.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe -- Hyundai's sporty Genesis Coupe may not offer a V8, but it still boasts bold styling, rear-wheel drive and impressive performance, all for an excellent value.
