• Scion xB and FR-S gaining new Release Series models
  • Both models will offer unique touches over the standard xB and FR-S
  • xB Release Series on sale this summer; FR-S closer to the fall

Two new special-edition Release Series models will soon join the Scion lineup. The Toyota brand recently announced the new models, which will bring unique styling and equipment to the popular xB hatchback and the new FR-S sports car.

The most hotly anticipated new model will be the FR-S Release Series 1.0, which is the first Release Series special edition available for the sporty FR-S. Revealed last week at the New York Auto Show, it will be built in a limited production run of just 1,500 units.

On the outside, FR-S Release Series 1.0 models will be finished in a bright shade of yellow dubbed Yuzu. They'll also include a custom aero kit, a rear spoiler and unique sider skirts. Other exterior updates include quad-tipped exhausts and Toyota Racing Development (TRD) lowering springs for better handling and a more aggressive stance.

Inside, the FR-S Release Series 1.0 also features several unique new features. There's a smart key with push-button starting, a TRD steering wheel, a TRD shift knob, dual-zone automatic climate control and a TRD cargo mat in the trunk. FR-S Release Series 1.0 models will also include a sequentially numbered emblem located near the shifter.

The xB Release Series 10.0 is, as its name suggests, the tenth Release Series model offered since the xB's 2004 debut. Also available in a limited run of 1,500 units, the xB Release Series offers several unique features of its own. Our favorite is a toss-up between the paint finish -- a unique pearl-white color with green highlights -- and the rear bumper, which projects a Scion logo on to the ground.

Other new items unique to the xB Release Series 10.0 include green interior lighting, glowing cupholders and lighting that projects xB RS 10.0 on the car's floor mats.

Scion says the xB Release Series 10.0 goes on sale this summer, while the FR-S will arrive closer to the fall. FR-S models will be priced under $30,000, while the xB will start around $21,000 with shipping when it reaches dealers.

What it means to you: The Scion xB and FR-S Release Series models offer some unique new updates sure to appeal to shoppers interested in standing out from the crowd.
