• Nissan adding new features to 2015 Altima, notably to SV model
  • Altima V6 also adds one mile per gallon in city fuel economy
  • 2015 Altima goes on sale later this summer

A few more standard features will be added to the 2015 Nissan Altima, and buyers can also expect to see a slight improvement in gas mileage for V6-powered models. That's the latest from Nissan, which announced the changes ahead of the 2015 Altima's impending on-sale date later this summer.

According to Nissan, the biggest changes come to the sedan's mid-level SV model, which is positioned between the base-level Altima S and the upscale SL. Those changes include two new standard features: fog lights and an 8-way power driver's seat. In addition, Altima models equipped with the sedan's optional remote-start system will now get an intelligent climate control feature that activates the car's heating or cooling depending on the outside temperature.

In addition to its new features, the Altima also boasts a slight fuel economy increase this year for its V6-powered models. Altima models that use the sedan's muscular 270-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 will add one mile per gallon in city driving, bringing gas mileage to 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. The Altima V6's combined rating also increases from 25 to 26 mpg. Nissan did not reveal information concerning how it increased the Altima's gas mileage.

Beyond its features and fuel economy, other updates to the 2015 Altima are limited to price increases. Most price jumps are minor, though Nissan is bumping up the price of V6-powered SV and SL models by over $1,000 -- a big figure for a car that's largely the same as last year's model.

Fully redesigned for the 2013 model year, the Altima offers 4- and 6-cylinder power, front-wheel drive, 5-passenger seating and a standard continuously variable automatic transmission. Base-level 4-cylinder models return an impressive 27 mpg city/38 mpg hwy, which places the Altima near the top of a class that includes rivals such as the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.

What it means to you: The 2015 Nissan Altima offers minor updates to help it remain competitive against highly competent rivals.
