• Redesigned 2016 Kia Sorento officially previewed in new photos
  • New Sorento is larger than outgoing model; offers more modern styling
  • 2016 Sorento is expected to go on sale early next year

A fully redesigned Kia Sorento is on its way. That's the latest from Kia, which recently released its first official photos of the all-new midsize crossover that is slated to go on sale early next year.

On the outside, the newly redesigned Sorento shares few touches with the current model. While the large rear lights are similar to today's Sorento, the SUV offers a totally new look in front and a completely revised side profile. The latest Sorento also boasts a new grille that makes especially bold use of Kia's tiger-nose front end.

Inside, the Sorento is also dramatically updated compared to the current model. While final photos haven't been shown, renderings reveal a vastly modernized cabin with a new dashboard, gear selector, steering wheel and other touches. The upcoming Sorento is also longer than the current model, which Kia says will provide for a more spacious rear seat.

Despite showing off exterior photos and an interior rendering, Kia has not yet revealed what's under the 2016 Sorento's hood. The current model offers drivers the choice between a 191-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and a 290-hp 3.3-liter V6, and many industry observers expect that the new model will also offer a standard 4-cylinder for fuel economy and an optional V6 for drivers who want more power.

Kia also hasn't announced what new gadgets to expect in the latest Sorento, though we suspect that the all-new model will offer a long list of high-tech features. The current Sorento lacks many cutting-edge options, such as lane-departure warning and adaptive cruise control, which are available on rivals including the Nissan Pathfinder, Ford Explorer and Toyota Highlander.

Although Kia hasn't announced an official on-sale date for its 2016 Sorento, we expect the crossover to make its North American debut in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

What it means to you: We're already impressed with the 2016 Kia Sorento for its bold new styling, and we're excited to see what else it will have to offer.
