Pros: The ultimate 911; 4-wheel drive handy for best possible acceleration; still available with three pedals

Cons: Pricey, even for a 911; design starting to look old with new Carrera out; Turbo S only offered with PDK automatic

What's new: The 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo retains its previous bodystyle in its final model year before being redesigned. A new 918 Edition Turbo S model joins the lineup, available only to shoppers who sign up for the upcoming Porsche 918 Spyder supercar.

Overview:

To create the 911 Turbo, Porsche starts with the iconic 911 sports car. The brand combines a turbocharged engine with all-wheel drive, resulting in the ultimate 911. The 911 Turbo is offered as a coupe or convertible. There's also an even faster Turbo S version. That model now offers a 918 Edition for shoppers who have signed up for Porsche's upcoming 918 Spyder.

The base-level 911 Turbo uses a 500-horsepower 3.8-liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder engine. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, while Porsche's quick-shifting 7-speed dual clutch PDK automatic is optional. Also offered as a coupe or soft-top convertible, the 911 Turbo S makes 530 hp and includes PDK as standard equipment.

The 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo starts around $138,500, while the Turbo Cabriolet is closer to $150,000. The starting price of the faster Turbo S is around $161,500, while the range-topping Turbo S Cabriolet is around $173,000 before options. The new 918 Edition models roughly mirror the base prices of the Turbo S and Turbo S Cabriolet.
