Hyundai's new Santa Fe Sport offers two engine choices: a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder or a more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged. Our long-term 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T clearly has the more powerful engine (the 2.0T in the SUV's name indicates the turbo engine). We're glad we opted for this one.

With the turbocharged engine, our Santa Fe Sport has more than enough power -- 264 horsepower to be exact, and that's strong for an SUV in this category. With this engine, the Sport is both quick and quiet -- one of our favorite combinations. Regardless of which options you choose, get the 2.0T version of the Santa Fe Sport; it's fun and fuel efficient.

This more powerful engine, combined with the 6-speed automatic transmission, also makes the Santa Fe Sport feel like a pricier V6-powered SUV. The vehicle feels heavy, as well. With the turbo engine, there's more than enough power, but from the driver's seat even the smaller Sport model feels substantial. That's reassuring, though others may disagree.

We've only had the Santa Fe for a short time, but we're already getting a glimpse at our 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T's real-world miles per gallon. In theory, the benefit of a turbocharged engine is that you get plenty of power with the fuel economy of a smaller engine. The Environmental Protection Agency's estimates for the Santa Fe Sport 2.0T are 19 mpg city/24 mpg hwy. We're getting 18.5 mpg with a mix of about 90 percent city driving and 10 percent highway.
