I always considered myself an SUV mom. In fact, part of the reason I bought my Lexus RX years ago was in preparation for my future children. I guess I just figured that when you become a mom, you're going to need all that extra space. Plus, there's the ease of getting your baby in and out of the car on a higher platform. So, for the past two years, I've driven my SUV without issue, happily contributing to the stereotype about moms and SUVs. That is, until I got behind the wheel of the all-new 2014 Mazda6.

Super Stylish

I never imagined I would be as taken with a sedan as I am with our long-term Mazda6 (nor had I ever even thought twice about a Mazda). First of all, it's beautiful. The exterior design is incredibly chic, with sleek, eye-catching curves. I'm not much of a "red" girl (at least in terms of cars), but Mazda's Soul Red is more of an elegant burgundy and simply makes the car stand out even more than it already does. The interior is equally impressive, with stylish 2-toned leather, soft-touch materials and a nonintrusive center console.

Toddler Territory

My 2-year-old daughter's car seat fits easily in the back seat, with plenty of room between her swinging legs and the back of the front passenger's seat. Now that she's not an infant (where the car seat pops out of the base even with the baby inside), getting her in and out of a lower vehicle is a nonissue. In fact, the Mazda's low profile allows her to climb in and out with just a little help from Mommy.

Tech Troubles

Of course, the 2014 Mazda6 isn't perfect. I can't seem to import my cellphone's contact list, no matter what I do (possibly user error?). This is definitely annoying when I'm driving and should simply be able to use the car's voice command feature to make a call. I'm also not in love with the navigation system. One of our editors commented that the screen seems a bit small, and I have to agree.

As someone who would never have considered a Mazda before, I can say firsthand that being open to new things usually results in something pretty great -- like this car ... a car that just might convince this mom to give up her SUV for good.
