Pros: The last word in luxury; incredible road presence; stunning power and torque; smooth ride

Cons: Incredibly expensive to buy, own and fuel; too big for many cities; old-fashioned interior

What's New: The Phantom is unchanged for 2014 after a major update last year.

Nothing says luxury like the 2014 Rolls-Royce Phantom. Except the Phantom doesn't really say luxury as much as scream it, thanks to its unmistakable styling, huge size, enormous hood and road presence that can't be matched.

The Phantom is available in four versions. There's the standard-level sedan, known simply as the Phantom, which starts around $404,000. For those who want more room, the extended-wheelbase model, or Phantom EWB, starts closer to $477,000. Shoppers interested in a unique experience can get the $432,000 Phantom Coupe, while the $475,000 Phantom Drophead Coupe -- actually a soft-top convertible -- completes the range.

Powering all versions of the Phantom is a 6.75-liter V-12 that's mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It makes 453 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque -- figures that sound sports-car-like until you remember that the Phantom weighs around 5,800 pounds. But despite its massive size, the Phantom can still reach 60 miles per hour from a standing stop in around six seconds.

So what does a high-luxury car like the 2014 Rolls-Royce Phantom offer that regular cars can't match? Well, there's the typical array of high-end goodies -- features such as a navigation system, heated front and rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control and parking sensors.

But the Phantom also boasts a long list of additional opulent items such as a lifetime satellite radio subscription, a wool or cashmere headliner, power-closing doors and a 360-degree camera system. There's also an extensive options list that includes a cigar humidor, a rear bar, a refrigerator and a "rear theatre" consisting of two separate DVD players.
