Pros: Reliable engine; surprisingly good gas mileage; fairly practical (for a Lotus); reasonably priced; great driving experience

Cons: Styling isn't as wild as Elise; still not practical by most standards; Lotus' future is uncertain

What's New: The 2014 Lotus Evora is unchanged compared to last year's model.

The mid-engine Evora is Lotus' flagship model. Designed to square off against established sports cars like the Porsche Cayman, the Evora features either 2-seat or 4-seat configurations and a 3.5-liter V6 that gives drivers the choice between fast or very fast.

Drivers who choose fast will get the standard Evora, which starts at around $68,000. It features a 3.5-liter Toyota V6 that makes 276 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The coupe reaches 60 miles per hour in around 5 seconds on its way to a top speed of approximately 160 mph.

Opt for very fast and you're looking at the Evora S, which adds about $10,000 to the standard model's base price. Evora S models use the same 3.5-liter V6 as the base version but add a supercharger. The result is 345 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque with 0-to-60 times of around 4.4 seconds and a top speed approaching 180 mph.

If you're interested in buying a 2014 Lotus Evora, you'll also have to decide which transmission is right for you. A 6-speed manual is standard, while a 6-speed IPS sequential manual automatic is available for $2,850 extra. Standard features include Recaro sport seats, keyless entry, air conditioning and bi-xenon headlights, while options include automatic transmission and rear seats.
