Although today's vehicle shoppers are increasingly turning to SUVs and crossovers, the market for traditional cars remains large, with many automakers offering a full lineup across all sizes and segments. We've searched through many available special offers throughout May, locating the best deals available this month for buyers who would prefer a car over any other type of vehicle.
The sporty Chevrolet Camaro is available with several great deals throughout May. Although the 2012 Camaro is the latest model, the virtually identical 2011 features the best available deal, with Chevrolet advertising zero percent financing for up to 72 months to help dealers clear out remaining inventory. For car shoppers who have to have a 2012 - or can't find a 2011 - the automaker is also offering a deal on current Camaro models, with 1.9 percent interest rates for up to 60 months on most models. Sadly, these deals don't apply to the recently released Camaro ZL1, which offers a supercar-challenging 580 horsepower.
With a new Fusion on the way, Ford is finally advertising a series of special offers on the current model designed to begin clearing out inventory. According to the automaker, qualified car shoppers interested in financing a 2012 Fusion through Ford Credit are eligible for interest rates as low as zero percent for up to 60 months, or 1.9 percent for 72 months plus $1,000 cash back. For buyers paying in full, the automaker is offering up to $2,500 cash back on the Fusion - an offer that even applies to the highly efficient - and sought after - Fusion Hybrid. As usual, Ford is also sweetening the deal for America's public servants by offering $500 back on all 2012 Fusion models - and most of its 2012 lineup - to police offers and active members of the military.
Through the end of May, car shoppers interested in getting a lot of character in their next compact car can find a great deal on the charming Kia Soul. According to Kia, car shoppers looking to lease a Soul can get a well-equipped base model with an automatic transmission for just $169 per month after $1,999 at signing. For shoppers who would rather finance their Soul, Kia is also offering a deal throughout May, touting interest rates as low as 0.9 percent for up to 36 months for qualified buyers. But like Kia, we recognize that the Soul isn't for everyone - and that's why we also recommend checking out the compact Forte, which features more traditional styling and up to $1,000 cash back on top of interest rates starting at 1.9 percent.
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution
Serious automotive enthusiasts know the Lancer Evolution is already one of the best performance buys on the market thanks to its turbocharged 291-horsepower four-cylinder, standard all-wheel drive and available dual-clutch automatic transmission. But throughout May, the sedan is an even better deal due to a series of special offers from Mitsubishi. According to the automaker, buyers looking to finance the sedan can get zero percent interest for up to 36 months, while shoppers who would prefer to lease can get monthly payments starting at just $349 after $3,698 at signing. Each of those offers is even more impressive considering the sedan's tremendous performance numbers and its already reasonable base price of just $35,290 including destination.
Toyota will soon replace its large Avalon sedan, which has led the automaker to begin offering several enticing discounts on the current model. According to the automaker, qualified car shoppers interested in financing a 2012 Avalon can get interest rates as low as 0.9 percent for up to 60 months, while buyers paying in full can get up to $500 cash back. Toyota is also offering a lease deal on the Avalon, touting monthly payments of $349 per month after $2,999 due at signing. Toyota is also quick to point out that each of those special offers comes with its newly standard Toyota Care program, which provides free oil changes and tire rotations and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years or 25,000 miles.
What it means to you: Many new cars of all sizes are available with strong incentives throughout May.
