- Stallone owned this SL65 Black Series
- Bought it as a new car in 2011
- Available in Laguna Niguel, Calif.
Movie fans and adrenalin junkies will lust after this 2009 Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series offered by Mercedes-Benz of Laguna Niguel in Southern California. That's because in addition to boasting 661 horsepower, it was previously owned by actor Sylvester Stallone.
According to Amy, a salesperson at Mercedes-Benz of Laguna Niguel, Stallone bought the Black Series new from a different dealer. The high-performance coupe's CARFAX report shows it wasn't titled until 2011, suggesting it may have been available for a long time before the actor pulled the trigger. But once he did, he didn't spend a lot of time behind the wheel.
"He must not have driven it much," said Amy, who noted the coupe's 1,300-mile odometer reading. "It still looks like a new car, too."
Indeed, Stallone probably drove the car only a few times between buying it in April 2011 and selling it late last year. But while the car was only used sparingly, it boasts a hefty discount from its original price.
While the $219,888 asking price for Stallone's Black Series may seem expensive, it's certainly much less than the coupe's original value. When the SL65 Black Series came out in 2009, pricing started at $300,000 and quickly climbed with options. The high prices caused many to sit unsold at dealers -- likely including Stallone's.
Shoppers also may have shied away from the SL65 Black Series because it didn't offer enough advantages over the standard SL65 AMG. In fact, it offered one distinct disadvantage: While other SL-Class models are convertibles, the Black Series was a fixed-roof coupe. That may have turned off buyers who want some sun with their high-powered luxury cars.
While that may have been a deal breaker for some buyers, it's no surprise Stallone liked the Black Series. With flared fenders and a huge rear wing, its macho look closely matches his own. And its twin-turbo V12 propels it to 60 mph in around 3.6 seconds. That's perfect for an action hero like Stallone, who reportedly does many of his own stunts.
What it means to you: If you'd like a little celebrity cachet to go along with your high-dollar supercar, consider this 2009 SL65 Black Series once owned by Sylvester Stallone.
