The extreme sports festival known as the X Games is set to kick off in Los Angeles next week, and we have started to wonder, as we often do, what the perfect car would be for the occasion. After all, some cars are just a little more 'extreme' than others. Scouring the list of ads on the site, we came across a gem that might just fit the bill.

For sale right now on is a 2005 Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG that once belonged to X Games gold medalist Dave Mirra.

Mirra is best known for his BMX stunts at the X Games, but he is also a certified car nut. He currently races for the US Subaru Rally Team. As we're publishing this, he's currently ranked fourth in the Rally America Championship with his Subaru Impreza.

Later this month, Mirra will continue his Rally America fight in the final round at X Games 17.

The G-Class has an interesting history of its own. In spite of the Mercedes badge, G-Class vehicles were never really known for their luxury. The original G was first developed for the military in the mid-1970s, and it didn't go on sale to civilians in 1979.

A heavily modified version of the G-Class SUV serves as the basis for the new 'Pope-mobile,' Pope Benedict XVI's current cruiser.

For decades, the no-nonsense Benz was unavailable to the US market, so a handful of wealthy Mercedes enthusiasts labored through the import process to get their hands on one. In 2001, the G-Class was officially put on sale in the US.

Today, the beefy Mercedes comes well appointed with leather and all the refinements one would expect from the German luxury brand, but it's still as rugged as the original model.

This particular truck is a G55 AMG performance edition. The G55's supercharged 5.5 liter V8 engine puts our 469 horsepower and 516 pound feet of torque.

Mirra's G55 is largely unmodified, save for the set of 22 inch Lowenhart chrome wheels. According to Kevin Campbell, who works at the selling dealership, the G55 has a single-owner title, so buyers can take solace in knowing that all of the 62,000 miles on the odometer are Dave Mirra miles.

The dealer asks $53,995, which is priced lower than the SUV's estimated value.
