In 2001, Ford released the first Bullitt special edition Mustang.  The limited run of 5,000 cars sold quickly, with gear heads clamouring to own a car that could bring them closer to the legend of Steve McQueen, as well as his epic car chase through the streets of San Francisco in the movie Bullitt.

For sale right now on AutoTrader is a 2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt that was signed by Steve McQueen's son, Chad.

Chad McQueen, like his father, has worked professionally as both an actor and as a racing driver. You can spot him playing the Cobra Kai student Dutch in the first two Karate Kid films, or at McQueen Racing LLC., where he currently sells specially modified racing cars and motorcycles.

In the car world, Steve McQueen is legend. His participation in motorsports and tendency to star in films that feature American muscle helped bring car culture to the mainstream. No movie shows this better than the 1968 film Bullitt.

The movie was a very gritty detective film for the time, but what it's really remembered for is the seven minute long car chase that to this day is still the standard by which all movie car chases are judged.

In 2008, Ford decided to create a second homage to the classic film. The special models were only offered in two colors; black, and the Dark Highland Green of McQueen's movie car.

Under the skin, the Bullitt edition is mostly a regular GT Mustang. The 4.6 liter V8 engine has been retuned for the Bullitt model giving it an extra 15 horsepower, but the car listed on the site today has been equipped with a Vortech supercharger that boosts it up to 480 horsepower.

The car earned its signature when the previous owner spotted Chad McQueen at a Bullitt Mustang enthusiast meet up, and asked him to sign the dash.

The Mustang has also been lowered slightly from its factory setting. "It's not speed bump-scraping low, but it has a firm ride," current owner Tom Duenkel said, "It's just what you want in a Mustang." Duenkel also had the car fitted with an aftermarket exhaust system.

The car is for sale at $24,000 which is pretty much pretty dead on with it's estimated KBB value.

Duenkel said he is forced to sell the Mustang (his seventh) in order to pay for an upcoming wedding. With low miles and a reasonable asking price, this modified muscle car is a great little slice of automotive nostalgia.
