- Drummer Joey Kramer owned this 2011 Exige
- Customized sports car boasts low mileage
- The Aerosmith drummer was its only owner
Shoppers looking for an unusual high-performance sports car with a unique ownership history would be wise to consider this 2011 Lotus Exige offered by John Eagle European in Austin, Texas. That's because in addition to offering exhilarating performance and head-turning styling, this sporty, mid-engine coupe was previously owned by drummer Joey Kramer of Aerosmith fame.
According to sales consultant Jeffrey Kahn, Kramer purchased the vehicle new from John Eagle European, which counts Lotus and several other exotic automakers among its new vehicle brands. Kahn said that Kramer drove the Exige sparingly, racking up only slightly more than 2,000 miles after just a year of ownership.
"He barely drove it and never tracked it," said Kahn, appealing to potential buyers interested in a well-preserved example of the rare Lotus. "He bought it just before Aerosmith went on tour, and his only modification was to paint the wheels white so they matched the rest of the car."
Indeed, the white wheels give the car a highly distinctive appearance, as does an autograph located behind the driver's side window. But the signature isn't Kramer's, belonging instead to former Lotus director of vehicle engineering Roger Becker. That means the Exige is one of a handful of rare Roger Becker Edition models designed to pay tribute to the recently retired 44-year veteran of the exotic British sports car marque.
But while Kramer's special edition Exige includes a unique ownership history and few miles, it's also a great car for serious drivers. That's because the coupe is a sport-tuned S260 model, which features a mid-mounted 257-horsepower 1.8-liter 4-cylinder good for a 0-60 mph time of around 4seconds. It also offers the Exige's traditional stiff construction and an exceptionally light curb weight of just over 2,000 lbs.
While the Exige certainly won't appeal to all buyers, sports car shoppers interested in a rare model with an even more exclusive ownership history will love this one. And with an asking price of just under $70,000, Joey Kramer's Exige is several thousand dollars cheaper than it was when the famed Aerosmith drummer drove it off the lot just over a year ago.
What it means to you: If you can handle the Exige's cramped passenger cabin and no-compromise driving characteristics, consider this low-mileage example with a unique celebrity ownership history.
