Toyota is celebrating the sale of its one-millionth Prius hybrid car and the company wants to give owners a chance to join the fun. To mark the event, Toyota is giving away free custom badges and decals to current Prius owners.
Each badge features a unique design based on the owner's individual experience with their Prius. To apply for their badge, owners visit the Prius Goes Platinum web page at toyotapriusprojects.com/#/013. There they enter information on their car's model year, mileage and how many other Priuses they've owned.
The system compiles the information and generates a unique badge for that owner. Each badge incorporates an array of green lines that look sort of like an exploding firework. Each green line represents a certain amount of carbon dioxide kept from entering the atmosphere by driving a Prius over a conventional car. So the more green lines, the bigger the owner's impact on the environment.
The design for an older model Prius will feature longer and wider lines than those with a newer car. Have a Prius with a lot of miles? Your badge will feature a lot of swooshing green lines. And owners with more than one Prius will get a badge with multiple green flowery explosions.
The unique designs are featured in the middle of a shield that proudly proclaims, "prius goes platinum" on top and "1 million" on the bottom.
The first 1,000 people to sign up will receive their designs on a specially embossed metal badge. If you miss out on those, Toyota will send decal versions to the next 10,000 registrations.
The offer only extends to American Prius owners, much to the chagrin of foreign enthusiasts who have voices their complaints in the website's comments section.
Anyone overseas or beyond the first 11,000 people will only be able to get their hands on a digital version from the Toyota Web site, meaning that only around one percent of Priuses built will be able to sport the custom badge. So get cracking Prius enthusiasts!
