Buick will show an ultra-luxurious concept version of its midsize LaCrosse sedan at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show. Dubbed the LaCrosse GL, the upscale concept features a host of interior upgrades and revisions designed to take the already well-appointed sedan to a new level of luxury and refinement.

According to Buick, designers working on the LaCrosse GL benchmarked fine cuisine, heirloom objects and other enriching experiences when refining the interior to add upscale touches. The result is liberal use of cabernet red, dark cocoa brown and caramel choccachio finishes throughout the cabin, along with French-stitched premium leather seats designed to resemble classic club chairs.

Other interior upgrades include an unusual asymmetrical contoured pattern on the sedan's seats, which Buick says is intended to evoke the lines of windswept sand dunes, and a smooth suede headliner designed to invite touch like a favorite pair of gloves. Interior metal accents on the LaCrosse GL's instrument panel are finished in a warm, rich hue, and Buick says the interior's swirling woodgrain trim was fashioned to remind buyers of classic Les Paul guitars.

"The LaCrosse GL concept expresses Buick's distinctly human kind of luxury - one that is as warmly inviting as it is elegant and refined," said David Lyon, Buick's executive director of design. "The design cues that already distinguish the production LaCrosse - such as the premium leather-upholstered seats, ice blue ambient lighting and soft touch surfaces - are amplified in the GL and serve as inspiration for future Buick models."

On the outside, further changes distinguish the LaCrosse GL from its workaday stablemates. In addition to the sedan's cabernet red exterior paint and brushed chrome accents on its grille, door handles, deck lid and window trim, the LaCrosse GL features unique machine-face satin-finish 20-inch wheels that provide an attractive yet muscular appearance. Additionally, each of the LaCrosse GL's doorsills includes high-quality backlit plates, which feature Buick's logo.

While Buick hasn't announced if it plans to put the LaCrosse GL concept into production, the automaker could likely manufacture the upscale trim level without considerable difficulty. But it's unclear if General Motors would green light the project, since it may steal sales from the automaker's luxurious Cadillac brand. In any case, we'll be on hand at the Los Angeles Auto Show when the LaCrosse GL is officially revealed to provide more details.
