Porsche revealed the newest of its Panamera line of sport sedans today at the LA Auto Show, the performance-oriented Panamera GTS. In terms of power, the GTS fits between the 4S model and the Panamera Turbo. But while the GTS is not the most powerful Panamera, Porsche says it is the "purest." To back the claim, the track-ready Panamera GTS relies on an upgraded motor and a sportier chassis. Special GTS-specific details set it apart from the rest of the Panamera family.

The GTS starts with the same normally-aspirated 4.8-liter V8 found in the Panamera S and 4S. But modifications like new valve springs, a higher-flow intake system and standard sport exhaust boost output to 430 horsepower, a gain of 30. Torque is up by 15lb-ft to 384. Performance is superb - 0-60mph in 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 178mph.

Power is delivered via Porsche's seven-speed PDK transmission. All-wheel-drive is standard, as is the Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus system, which includes a torque vectoring rear differential and can apply braking force to a slipping inside rear wheel to aid steering precision.

The Panamera GTS's chassis benefits from sportier tuning and an adaptive air suspension. Porsche Active Suspension Management constantly monitors and modulates leveling, spring rates and damping to adapt to driving conditions. The GTS shares the Panamera Turbo's braking system, while ceramic composite brakes are offered as an option.

Porsche's Sport Chrono Plus Package is standard on the Panamera GTS and adds a Sport Plus mode to the engine management system. The additional mode allows the stability program to be deactivated and also includes a launch control function.

The GTS is differentiated visually from other Panameras most obviously by its gloss black exterior package. It includes window trim, side air outlet panels, rear diffuser, and side skirts. Grilles, tailpipes, and the inner bezels of the GTS's bi-xenon headlights are blacked out as well.

The black trim gives the Carmine Red LA Show car a decidedly sporty look. The special GTS interior package that includes black Alcantara seats with contrasting Carmine Red stitching is also well-suited to the racy GTS.

What it means to you: Should the 4S lack the power and the force-fed Turbo lack the purity you require, the GTS is the high-performance Panamera of choice.
