2011 GMC Canyon

General Motors is issuing a recall for its 2011 model year Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks.

The trucks mentioned in the recall may have a windshield wiper nut that wasn't properly fastened during installation.

When the wiper meets extra resistance (such as when the wipers are turned on while the windshield is dry, or if there is a large amount of snow on the windshield) the nut that holds the wipers on to the wiper motors may loosen.

If that happens, the wiper could become disconnected from the motor, preventing them from clearing the windshield. While windshield wipers may seem like a minor issue, they do serve an important purpose in maintaining visibility, and anyone who is experiencing trouble with their wipers is encouraged to have them inspected and repaired immediately.

The recall is for 2011 model year trucks built between September 22 and November 5, 2010. In total around 4,500 trucks will be affected by the recall.

GM customers who suspect that their truck may qualify for any repair work are asked to contact their local dealer to schedule an appointment. Dealers have been instructed to replace the wiper motor nut for free.

Auto recall aficionados may remember a similar issue from Honda about two months ago for the Odyssey minivan. In that case the problem was a faulty windshield wiper arm that could potentially bend under stress.

This will be the third recall for the 2011 Colorado and Canyon pickups. GM issued a recall earlier this year for a faulty pin in the truck's drive train. The pin was prone to beak, which could cause the rear axle to seize. That was a much larger, and more sweeping recall that affected more than 25,000 trucks.

The first Canyon/Colorado recall was for child seat anchors that were too difficult to access. In that case, dealers were instructed to cut a hole in the truck's interior trim to allow easier access for parents to install child seats.
