It's rare to find a car that blends performance, style and fuel economy so effectively, but that's what the 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid does. It also combines that thrift with plenty of interior space and many standard convenience features.

A SmartGauge LCD instrument panel has electronic dials and an information display almost as entertaining as it is functional. Different modes help drivers keep tabs on the eco-friendliness of their motoring habits, as well as more typical readouts like an engine temperature gauge. All seats are covered with an eco-friendly fabric made from post-industrial, 100-percent recycled materials.

Its combination of gas and electric motors means the Fusion Hybrid is quick off the line, with muscle left in reserve for passing. Yet the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) gives it a rating of 41 miles per gallon in the city. Hybrids typically do better in this test, because low-speed driving allows the electric motors to take over more often and that means using less gas. The Fusion Hybrid has a combined city/highway EPA rating of 39 mpg.

The 2011 Ford Fusion Hybrid starts at $28,100.
