When it comes to sports cars, it�s hard to beat a Porsche. And this year�s version � the 2001 Porsche 911 Carrera � doesn�t disappoint. Buyers can choose between a hardtop Coupe or a Convertible Cabriolet. Engines range from a 300 horsepower 3.4-liter flat 6-cylinder to a whopping 415 horsepower 3.6-liter turbocharged flat 6-cylinder. In addition to aggressive handling and a fast zero-to-60, the Carrera comes nicely equipped with auto climate control, cruise, keyless entry, leather, navigation, heated lumbar seats and an adjustable leather-wrapped steering wheel.

A warm-up act for even bigger, better things.

Contrary to published reports, this 911 is NO GT2! After seeing the GT2 concept in Paris, high-buck Porschephiles would never stand for it.

Shown here is not the Porsche 911 GT2, but an even more potent version of the 420-hp 911 Turbo, badged the Turbo S. While our sources in Germany confirmed the existence of the Turbo S, our photographer was close enough to listen to the sound of the engine while it was speeding over the legendary German Nurburgring racetrack - and clearly identified the drivetrain as a turbocharged engine.

This prototype, like the standard turbo, sports the two huge air intakes in the rear wings and festoons the 911 Turbo’s characteristic front bumper with even more air intakes.

But this Turbo S has undergone a diet - losing comfort and convenience features such as power windows, ESP, and the heavy seats, consequently trimming down to a low weight for maximum driving performance. We hear that the 3.6-liter turbocharged rear-mounted boxer engine might be tuned up to some 450 hp, and with the weight-reduction, will make the car even faster than the Turbo.

To be sold in limited numbers, the Turbo S is a good warm-up act for the upcoming GT2.

Porsche Certified Pre-Owned Warranty Certified Pre-Owned Warranty To be eligible for Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) status, vehicles generally must be recent models with relatively low mileage. CPO vehicles must also pass a detailed inspection, outlined by the manufacturer, which is measured by the number of inspected points. Warranty coverage can vary from one manufacturer to the next. While most certified pre-owned programs transfer and extend the existing new car warranty terms, others offer a warranty that simply represents an additional year and mileage value. The Porsche Approved Certified Pre-owned Limited Warranty offers full peace of mind. Porsche Cars NA will repair or replace with new or remanufactured part any factory installed part that is faulty in material or workmanship under normal use.
