A carry-over for 2007, the Fusion is a mid-size four-door five-passenger sedan that is offered in S, SE or SEL trim-levels. The Fusion is available with FWD or, new for 2007, AWD. The base engine is an inline four-cylinder with 16 valves that produces 160HP, and is standard with a five-speed manual transmission or the optional six-speed automatic. You may also choose the 3.0Liter 24-valve V6 that produces 221HP, and is offered with either the six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.

The 2007 Ford Fusion has been engineered to feel sportier than its mid-size competitors, and now that all-wheel drive is available, traction and handling have become greatly improved. Smart styling helps the Fusion stand out in a traditionally boring segment. Ford's 3.0L Duratec V6 engine is available with AWD and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It produces 221 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque, and has an EPA rating of 31 mpg on the highway.

What's new for 2007?

The Ford Fusion adds an all-wheel-drive configuration for 2007, available in both SE and SEL trims with the V6 engine. Front seat side-impact and curtain air bags became standard as did an auxiliary audio input jack. Optional equipment was expanded to include Sirius satellite radio and a DVD-based navigation. Base prices rose about $300 overall from the 2006 model year.

Model Review

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury. Side Impact Crash Test - Rear: Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
