Newly redesigned for 2007, the Sierra 1500 is a full-size pick up truck available in regular, extended and crew cab passenger configuration that can hold up to eight passengers. There is a short, standard and long bed box offered on either cab configuration. The standard engine is the 4.3-liter V6 (195HP), with options ranging from a 4.8-liter V8 (285HP), 5.3-liter V8 (295HP), 5.3-liter V8 flex-Fuel (296HP), 5.3-liter aluminum block (300HP) or a 6.0-liter V8 (335HP). All come standard with a six-speed automatic transmission except for the V6 which comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission.

Model Review

Although the GMC Sierra 1500 has been completely redesigned for 2007, what most separates it from the outgoing Sierra (Classic) is inside the cabin. The new interior offered on the top SLT trim is similar to that currently offered on GM's full-size sport-utility vehicles such as the GMC Yukon, and offers standard luxury features like power heated front leather seats, six-disc CD/MP3-capable audio system, and heated windshield washers, while top crew cab SLT models add rain-sensing wipers and a rear-seat audio system. LTZ models are further differentiated by a completely different instrument panel and door panels, a huge, 20.1-liter center console storage area, and upgraded five-liter glove box. Ultrasonic rear parking assist is available.

Safety Ratings What do the Safety Ratings mean? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury. Side Impact Crash Test - Rear: Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
