Bentley's big 2008 Azure convertible, which is closely related, both mechanically and in appearance, to the Arnage sedan, offers up traditional luxury to an extreme, with some of the best hides, trims, and veneers available on any vehicles. At more than the average U.S. house price, the Azure is in a very exclusive part of the market, where the sheer ownership experience of the vehicle is a big part of the value, elevating buyers to the top of their social class and winning favor at the country club. Compared to Bentley's Continental GTC convertible, the Azure is more traditionally styled, much more expensive, and much more exclusive, with only a few hundred made per year worldwide.

What's new for 2008?

For 2008, the Bentley Azure gets several new options, along with some new color and trim selections. New, 20-inch, 16-spoke alloy wheels are available in painted or polished form, and the carbon/silicon carbide brakes are newly offered. A new Dark Stained Vavona veneer is available, Newmarket Tan, Cashew, and Anthracite are newly offered hide colors, and Titan Grey and Venusian Grey join the exterior palette, for a total of 39 different standard exterior colors.

Model Review

The rear-wheel-drive 2008 Bentley Azure is powered by a 6.75L, twin-turbocharged V8 engine making 450 brake horsepower and an especially noteworthy 645 lb-ft of torque; it's paired with a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. The transmission won't need to downshift very often for passing, though; with the engine's massive torque output it promises a relaxed and refined--yet very quick--driving experience. Despite a weight of nearly 6,000 pounds, the Azure can sprint to 60 mph in only 5.6 seconds, with a top speed of 171 mph.
