This mid-size truck-based SUV shares its platform with the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, Buick Rainier, and Saab 9-7X.
The Envoy's standard engine is a 4.2-liter in-line six-cylinder engine rated at 291 horsepower. A 5.3-liter, 300-horsepower V-8 is available optionally and is standard on Denali models. Both engines come teamed with a four-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or four-wheel drive. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard.
Extended XL models add a third-row seat and seven-passenger capability. The Envoy's max tow rating is 6600 pounds. GM's StabiliTrak stability control and anti-lock brakes are standard; curtain airbags are a new standard item.
Other new features for 2008 include standard XM satellite radio, and available 20-inch polished aluminum wheels.
