The Mercedes-Benz E-Class lineup for 2008 counts five models under its umbrella - including all-wheel drive variants, diesel versions, and a high-performance wagon.
The 2008 range opens with the diesel-powered E320 Bluetec, moves up the price ladder with the V-6-powered E350 and the V-8-powered E550, and tops off with the fierce E63 AMG sedan and wagon. If you're counting drivetrains as separate models, there are two more: the all-wheel-drive versions of the E350 and E550.
Last year, Mercedes tuned up the styling on the E-Class range and added a standard sunroof and an upgraded Harmon Kardon stereo with six-disc CD-changer - as well as a PRE SAFE collision-anticipation system that prepares the car's safety systems when an imminent crash is anticipated.
For 2008 there's a new AMG Sport package for the E350 and E550 that includes AMG front and rear aprons, 18-inch five-spoke wheels, dual chrome exhaust, and AMG steering wheel with shift paddles.
Standard safety items on all E-Class cars include four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and Brake Assist, side-impact and head-curtain airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Automatic Slip Control, and active head restraints to help reduce whiplash injuries. An iPod interface allows users to control their Apple audio player from the steering wheel controls.
Options include a navigation system, adaptive cruise control, heated seats and steering wheel, and a power trunk closer.
