Benefits of Driving a 2008 Saab 9-7X Sport Utility

The 2008 Saab 9-7X is a truck-based sport-utility dressed up for the road, with a full roster of serious luxury-car comfort and convenience features. Yet it still has truck-like towing abilities, with a tow rating of up to 6,600 pounds. The sporty Aero model that's new for 2008, with its powerful V8 and performance-oriented attributes, broadens the 9-7X's appeal to those who might otherwise look to a more expensive model.

What's new for 2008?

A new high-performance Aero model, with a powerful 390-horsepower V8, joins Saab's 9-7X lineup for 2008. Otherwise, 20-inch wheels are now available on all models and high-polished aluminum 18-inch wheels are available on 4.2i and 5.3i models. Two new exterior finishes are available: Cocoa Metallic and Carbon Flash Metallic (Aero only).

Model Review

The 2008 Saab 9-7X, which is almost mechanically identical to the Chevrolet Trailblazer and GMC Envoy, is now offered in three different models. The base 4.2i is powered by a 285-horsepower, 4.2L inline six-cylinder engine; the 5.3i upgrades to a 300-horsepower, 5.3L V8; and the top-of-the-line, high-performance Aero model gets a 6.0L V8 making 390 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque.

2008 Saab 9-7X: What's New

Source: The Car Connection

If you've come to grips with the notion of a Saab SUV - much less one with V-8 power - you'll take the new Aero all in stride. The fastest Saab SUV yet gets one of GM's big, honking V-8s with 6.0 liters of displacement and 390 horsepower, enough to race to 60 mph in less than six seconds.

The Aero edition is new for 2008 in the Saab 9-7X lineup. It brings with its big V-8 a host of accessories, including 20-inch wheels and tires, a cocoa paint job, and special interior trim.

The other versions of the 9-7X lineup, the 4.2i and 5.3i, return for 2008. The 4.2i gets its power from a 290-horsepower, 4.2-liter in-line six-cylinder engine, while the 5.3i uses a high-torque, 300-horsepower V-8 powerplant that generates 330 lb-ft of torque.

All engines are fitted to a four-speed automatic transmission, and a fully automatic all-wheel drive system with a limited-slip rear differential comes standard.

All trim levels come standard with anti-lock brakes and rear-wheel electronic traction assist, a fully independent suspension with electronically controlled air shocks in the rear, side-curtain airbags, and a state-of-the-art audio system, among myriad other features.

The 9-7X range also comes with an AM/FM/XM six-disc, in-dash CD changer with rear-seat audio controls as well as a Bose 275-watt audio system with six speakers. An in-dash, DVD-based navigation system is available.

Options include a DVD entertainment array, upgraded audio system, and a power sunroof.

Safety Ratings help

What do the Safety Ratings mean?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests:

Driver Crash Grade:

Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury.

Passenger Crash Grade:

Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger.

Rollover Resistance:

Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover.

Side Impact Crash Test - Front:

Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.

Side Impact Crash Test - Rear:

Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.

Original Warranty  help
Original Warranty
An original warranty is the warranty associated with a vehicle when it is brand new. In addition to the original warranty, select items, like tires, are typically covered by respective manufacturers. Also, an act of Federal law sometimes provides protection for certain components, like emissions equipment.
The original warranty is often broken down into multiple sections, including:
Basic Warranty:
Typically covers everything except for parts that wear out through normal use of the vehicle. Examples of non-covered items are brake pads, wiper blades and filters.
Drivetrain Warranty:
This warranty covers items the basic warranty does not protect. Wear and tear items such as hoses will not be covered, but key items like the engine, transmission, drive axles and driveshaft often will be.
Roadside Assistance:
The level of service differs greatly with this warranty, but many manufacturers offer a toll-free number that helps provide assistance in case you run out of gas, get a flat tire or lock your keys in the car.
Corrosion Warranty:
This warranty focuses on protecting you from holes caused by rust or corrosion in your vehicle's sheet metal.
Please check the owner's manual, visit a local dealership or look at the manufacturer's website to learn more about the specifics of the warranties that apply to a vehicle.
