What's new for 2008?

Volvo's C70, completely redesigned in 2006, is relatively unchanged for 2008. Safety is further enhanced by the addition of a standard tire pressure monitor, and horsepower ratings rise from 218 to 227. An upscale Sovereign Hide leather seat trim is now available, as are aluminum interior inlays. Meanwhile, a Convenience Package groups such desirable options as rear park assist, keyless drive, a blind spot information system, and power retractable exterior mirrors.

Model Review

Volvo's convertible, the C70, is offered only with the top-performing T5 engine for 2008, a 2.5L five-cylinder engine making 227 horsepower. It's matched to a standard six-speed manual gearbox with triple synchros for optimum shift feel, and a five-speed Geartronic automatic transmission with manual shift control is optional. With the manual transmission, Volvo says that the C70 can reach 60 mph in 7.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 150 mph.

Volvo's hardtop convertible, the C70, gains horsepower, technology and some fine detailing for the 2008 model year.

The news under the C70's hood comes in the form of a nine-horsepower bump; overall, the C70's turbocharged 2.5-liter in-line five now has 227 horsepower, up from 218 hp. A six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic gearbox are offered on the front-driver.

The C70's folding hardtop mechanism soldiers on into the new year, while, inside the cockpit, Laminated Oak wood trim has been added to the center control panel, console and door handle surrounds, in place of the aluminum trim of the first model year. Leather trim has been applied to the steering wheel and the gearshift knob, too. The handbrake has been redesigned for a more compact arrangement, and the clock has been moved to the information screen.

Volvo's also added a standard tire-pressure monitoring system, along with improved air vents. A brighter finish is applied to the hardtop convertible button, and the Volvo "ironmark" has been added to the remote keyfob.

Ice White paint is now offered, alongside Pearl White, and a premium Sovereign Hide leather trim is available.
