2008 Volvo V50 Wagon

Benefits of Driving a 2008 Volvo V50 Wagon

The 2008 Volvo S40 and V50 are more stylish, attractive alternatives to more common small-car models, at only a slightly higher price. Especially notable is the distinctive interior, with its 'floating' center-stack design, which brings an airier feel to the instrument panel. Seats are also especially good in these cars. The T5's more powerful engine brings impressive acceleration; factor in Volvo's reputation for safety, and they're a well-rounded value.

What's new for 2008?

The Volvo S40 sedan and its V50 wagon counterpart get an updated appearance, along with a number of equipment revisions, for 2008. Both models get a redesigned front end, including new headlamps and a larger Volvo logo, a color coordinated rear bumper and moldings, and new bright trim in back. Inside there are larger door pockets, a redesigned center console area, and improved air vents, plus the clock has been repositioned to the audio display. Audio systems have been improved with a standard auxiliary input and MP3 capability.

Model Strengths

  • Stylish interior
  • comfortable front seats
  • cargo versatility (V50)
  • impressive acceleration (T5).

Model Review

The Volvo S40 sedan and V50 wagon are both offered in two primary models for 2008: the 2.4i and the T5. The 2.4i models get a 2.4L five-cylinder engine making 168 horsepower, matched with a five-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Sporty T5 models get a 227-horsepower, 2.5L turbocharged five-cylinder, offered only with the five-speed auto. Both automatic transmissions have Geartronic manual control. Both models have standard front-wheel drive, but the T5 is available with all-wheel drive as well.

2008 Volvo V50: What's New

Source: The Car Connection

Volvo's V50 returns for the 2008 model year, with virtually identical changes to those found in the S40 sedan, save for paint colors and wheel styles.

Under the hood of the base V50 2.4i, a 2.4-liter in-line five continues to provide 168 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. Its new front fascia, grille, and spoiler are framed by new headlamps and taillights. Inside, where Volvo admits interior storage was an issue, a new center console and revised set of door panels add more bins and more room for stuff - ten CDs, for example, even though the audio system now includes an iPod jack and MP3 capability. A newly positioned clock, better air vents, tire pressure monitors, and new 16-inch wheels are standard, while Volvo's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) is an option.

Higher-powered V50s with the turbocharged, 2.5-liter in-line five - the T5 and T5 AWD models - see their power increase from 218 to 227 horsepower. The exterior refinements carry over to the turbo models, which also get active bi-xenon headlights, which swivel in the direction the car is steered, and Dynaudio sound systems, which bowed in the C70 convertible. Sirius satellite radio is gratis for six months on turbo cars as well, while BLIS is an option. The AWD model gets a standard five-speed Geartronic automatic; the six-speed manual option has been deleted.

Original Warranty  help
Original Warranty
An original warranty is the warranty associated with a vehicle when it is brand new. In addition to the original warranty, select items, like tires, are typically covered by respective manufacturers. Also, an act of Federal law sometimes provides protection for certain components, like emissions equipment.
The original warranty is often broken down into multiple sections, including:
Basic Warranty:
Typically covers everything except for parts that wear out through normal use of the vehicle. Examples of non-covered items are brake pads, wiper blades and filters.
Drivetrain Warranty:
This warranty covers items the basic warranty does not protect. Wear and tear items such as hoses will not be covered, but key items like the engine, transmission, drive axles and driveshaft often will be.
Roadside Assistance:
The level of service differs greatly with this warranty, but many manufacturers offer a toll-free number that helps provide assistance in case you run out of gas, get a flat tire or lock your keys in the car.
Corrosion Warranty:
This warranty focuses on protecting you from holes caused by rust or corrosion in your vehicle's sheet metal.
Please check the owner's manual, visit a local dealership or look at the manufacturer's website to learn more about the specifics of the warranties that apply to a vehicle.

Basic 4 Years/50,000 Miles
Drivetrain 4 Years/50,000 Miles
Corrosion 12 Years/Unlimited Miles
Roadside Assistance 4 Years/Unlimited Miles

Volvo Certified Pre-Owned Warranty  help
Certified Pre-Owned Warranty
To be eligible for Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) status, vehicles generally must be recent models with relatively low mileage. CPO vehicles must also pass a detailed inspection, outlined by the manufacturer, which is measured by the number of inspected points.
Warranty coverage can vary from one manufacturer to the next. While most certified pre-owned programs transfer and extend the existing new car warranty terms, others offer a warranty that simply represents an additional year and mileage value. Always check with the manufacturer for the specific warranties they offer.
Common features and benefits of Certified Pre-Owned warranties include:
Age/Mileage Eligibility
To even be considered for certification, a car must be a recent model year and have limited mileage. The exact requirements are established by individual manufacturers.
Lease Term Certified
Some manufacturers offer certified pre-owned cars for lease. The length of the lease is often shorter than a new car lease, but it will cost you less.
Point Inspection
These inspections entail a comprehensive vehicle test to ensure that all parts are in excellent working order. The point inspection list is simply a numbered list of exactly what parts of the car are examined. While many inspections range from a 70- to 150-point checklist, most are very similar and are performed using strict guidelines. Ask your local dealer about specific details.
Return/Exchange Program
Some manufacturers offer a very limited return or exchange period. Find out if you will get the sales tax and licensing/registration fees back should you return or exchange the car.
Roadside Assistance
Most certified pre-owned programs offer free roadside service in case your car breaks down while still under warranty.
Special Financing
Reduced-rate loans are available through many certified pre-owned programs. Manufacturer-backed inspections and warranties help eliminate the risks involved with buying pre-owned, so buyers who qualify can take advantage of the great offers.
Transferable Warranty
When a new car warranty transfers with the certification of the car and remains eligible for the next owner, it is known as a transferable warranty. Once the original transferable warranty expires, an extended warranty takes effect.
Warranty Deductible
This is the amount for which you are responsible when repair work is performed under the warranty. Some manufacturers require a deductible while others don't, so always ask.

7-year/100,000-mile exclusionary warranty. The Volvo factory-backed CPO warranty fully covers every part not specifically excluded: including replacement/repair of thousands of components, systems and operations.
Age/Mileage Eligibility Model years less than 5 years with under 80k miles
Lease Term Certified Yes
Point Inspection 130+ Point Inspection
Return/Exchange Program No
Roadside Assistance Yes
