Benefits of Driving a 2008 Volvo V70 Wagon

The new 2008 Volvo V70 and XC70 stand out for their roomy interior, ride comfort, and innovative child booster-seat system, with integrated, adjustable cushions. The XC70, additionally, is for many families an ideal alternative to a large sport utility vehicle. The new incorporation of several active safety systems also reinforces Volvo's reputation for producing some of the safest vehicles on the road.

What's new for 2008?

The Volvo V70 wagon and its more rugged counterpart, the XC70, have been completely redesigned for 2008. Both feature a new shape and a more contemporary appearance similar to that of the S80, and both are built on the same platform as the S80. The V70 and XC70 also get a smooth new six-cylinder engine in place of the former five-cylinder. For now, the sporty 'R' version is discontinued.

Model Strengths

  • Safety features
  • roomy interior and cargo space
  • terrific ride.

Model Review

Both the Volvo V70 and XC70 come only with a 3.2L in-line six-cylinder engine for 2008, making 235 horsepower and hooked up to a six-speed automatic transmission with Geartronic manual selection.

2008 Volvo V70: What's New

Source: The Car Connection

The Volvo V70 wagon has been completely restyled for the 2008 model year, and now rides on a version of the Volvo S80 sedan architecture. It shares its wagon body style with the XC70, which is also new for 2008.

As in the new S80, the V70's in-line engine is turned transversely in the engine bay. The 3.2-liter, 238-horsepower six-cylinder engine is the only engine available, though, while the S80 offers a turbo six and a V-8. An in-line five-cylinder turbodiesel with 185 hp will be available in markets outside the U.S., where the V70 is expected to be a stronger seller.

A six-speed automatic transmission is standard, as is Volvo's all-wheel drive system, which uses a Haldex clutch system to shuttle power from a 95/5 ratio up to a 35/65 rear bias, depending on traction. Volvo predicts a top speed of 134 mph, and a moderate pace of 8.6 seconds to get to 60 mph.

The V70 now has more leg room and more interior space than the outgoing model. There's an extra 2.4 inches of wheelbase applied, which grants more middle-row room. Still, the second-row passengers ought to be small, not strapping: two six-footers riding tandem in the V70 will find their knees close to the dash and the front seatback.

The middle seats are versatile: they're split into three separate cushions, each of which folds flat forward and amplifies cargo room. And for smallest passengers, the second row can be outfitted with integrated two-position booster seats that eliminate the need for aftermarket strap-ins.

The luggage compartment has grown by nearly two cubic feet to 19 cubic feet, and the large hatch makes it easier to access the cargo area.

Key in the V70's profile is safety gear. Volvo's Side Impact Protection System has been improved; the new model will also get Volvo's whiplash protection head restraints (WHIPS), and adaptive cruise control. Stability and traction control will be standard.

Original Warranty  help
Original Warranty
An original warranty is the warranty associated with a vehicle when it is brand new. In addition to the original warranty, select items, like tires, are typically covered by respective manufacturers. Also, an act of Federal law sometimes provides protection for certain components, like emissions equipment.
The original warranty is often broken down into multiple sections, including:
Basic Warranty:
Typically covers everything except for parts that wear out through normal use of the vehicle. Examples of non-covered items are brake pads, wiper blades and filters.
Drivetrain Warranty:
This warranty covers items the basic warranty does not protect. Wear and tear items such as hoses will not be covered, but key items like the engine, transmission, drive axles and driveshaft often will be.
Roadside Assistance:
The level of service differs greatly with this warranty, but many manufacturers offer a toll-free number that helps provide assistance in case you run out of gas, get a flat tire or lock your keys in the car.
Corrosion Warranty:
This warranty focuses on protecting you from holes caused by rust or corrosion in your vehicle's sheet metal.
Please check the owner's manual, visit a local dealership or look at the manufacturer's website to learn more about the specifics of the warranties that apply to a vehicle.

Basic 4 Years/50,000 Miles
Drivetrain 4 Years/50,000 Miles
Corrosion 12 Years/Unlimited Miles
Roadside Assistance 4 Years/Unlimited Miles

Volvo Certified Pre-Owned Warranty  help
Certified Pre-Owned Warranty
To be eligible for Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) status, vehicles generally must be recent models with relatively low mileage. CPO vehicles must also pass a detailed inspection, outlined by the manufacturer, which is measured by the number of inspected points.
Warranty coverage can vary from one manufacturer to the next. While most certified pre-owned programs transfer and extend the existing new car warranty terms, others offer a warranty that simply represents an additional year and mileage value. Always check with the manufacturer for the specific warranties they offer.
Common features and benefits of Certified Pre-Owned warranties include:
Age/Mileage Eligibility
To even be considered for certification, a car must be a recent model year and have limited mileage. The exact requirements are established by individual manufacturers.
Lease Term Certified
Some manufacturers offer certified pre-owned cars for lease. The length of the lease is often shorter than a new car lease, but it will cost you less.
Point Inspection
These inspections entail a comprehensive vehicle test to ensure that all parts are in excellent working order. The point inspection list is simply a numbered list of exactly what parts of the car are examined. While many inspections range from a 70- to 150-point checklist, most are very similar and are performed using strict guidelines. Ask your local dealer about specific details.
Return/Exchange Program
Some manufacturers offer a very limited return or exchange period. Find out if you will get the sales tax and licensing/registration fees back should you return or exchange the car.
Roadside Assistance
Most certified pre-owned programs offer free roadside service in case your car breaks down while still under warranty.
Special Financing
Reduced-rate loans are available through many certified pre-owned programs. Manufacturer-backed inspections and warranties help eliminate the risks involved with buying pre-owned, so buyers who qualify can take advantage of the great offers.
Transferable Warranty
When a new car warranty transfers with the certification of the car and remains eligible for the next owner, it is known as a transferable warranty. Once the original transferable warranty expires, an extended warranty takes effect.
Warranty Deductible
This is the amount for which you are responsible when repair work is performed under the warranty. Some manufacturers require a deductible while others don't, so always ask.

7-year/100,000-mile exclusionary warranty. The Volvo factory-backed CPO warranty fully covers every part not specifically excluded: including replacement/repair of thousands of components, systems and operations.
