2008 Volvo XC90: What's New

The 2008 edition of Volvo's XC90 sport-utility vehicle returns in three different trim levels: the XC90 3.2, the XC90 V-8 and the V-8 Sport. The base SUV's 235-horsepower, 3.2 liter in-line six-cylinder engine returns with a standard six-speed Geartronic automatic transmission. New for this year are a standard auto-dimming rearview mirror and 17-inch Antaeus wheels, along with optional 18-inch wheels.

The V-8 edition, with 311 horsepower, returns as well. Teamed with the six-speed Geartronic automatic, the V-8 gets a standard auto-dimming rear-view mirror, 18-inch wheels, wood trim on the interior and bright trim on the exterior. The Touring Package has been deleted, but a new Executive Package includes 19-inch wheels, soft leather seating and premium floor mats. The V-8 sport wears Sport Calcite leather seats instead.

Front-side and side-curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist, stability and traction control, roll-stability control and a rollover protection system are standard on all XC90s, as is a tire pressure monitoring system. The XC90 can seat up to seven passengers via an optional hideaway third-row seat, making it a viable alternative to truck-based SUVs and seven-passenger minivans. The XC90's second-row seat can also be adjusted fore and aft to maximize either cargo space or passenger room.
