The 2009 BMW M5 is, purely and simply, one of the most exciting options in the luxury sports sedan category, thanks to the 5.0L V10 engine that produces 500 hp. This power is transferred through the standard 7-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) or through the optional (at no extra charge) 6-speed manual transmission. A new option for the 2009 BMW M5 is the added exterior color choice of Carbon Black Metallic. If you want to hurl the BMW M5 through corners or drive your kids to school, the adjustable suspension and vehicle-speed-sensitive variable-assist power steering ensure that your driving experience matches your needs at that time. You will be able to find a comfortable position in the driver's seat due to the BMW M5 18-way power-adjustable BMW M sport front seats, including seatback side bolsters, headrests and 4-way lumbar and 2-way thigh support. The audio is provided by the Logic7 Surround Sound AM/FM stereo CD system with MP3 capabilities. Located in the BMW M5 are 13 speakers, including 2 subwoofers, although you may turn it all off just to hear the growl of the V10. This car is a carryover from the 2008 BMW M5. The BMW M5 achieves 11 mpg city/17 mpg hwy.
The 5-Series models are athletic and surefooted sport sedans (and wagons) that offer a surprising level of comfort inside. Technology features are also a strong point in the 5-Series, with performance and safety standouts like Active Steering, Active Roll Stabilization and a night vision system. The 535xi Sport Wagon is a very fashionable and fun-to-drive alternative to a sport-utility vehicle.
For 2009, audio systems have been upgraded and can now accept devices via USB interface. Also, Sirius Satellite Radio is now included across the line, but a first-aid kit is no longer standard. Two new 17-inch wheel designs are being introduced.
The 5-Series is offered with three different engines--designated by the models 528, 535 and 550. A 230-horsepower, 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine is standard on 528 models; 535 models get a 300-horsepower, turbocharged 3.0-liter six. A 4.8-liter V-8 engine making 360 horsepower comes in the 550. The 528 models are offered with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, as are the 535 models, while the 550 is only available with rear-wheel drive. Each of the models comes with a standard six-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic transmission with Steptronic shift command is optional.
