For 2009, the Cadillac XLR offers only the Platinum trim level but does so with upgrades that include new front and rear fascias, a power-dome hood, Bluetooth connectivity and stylish interior updates, such as new wood and metal accents, leather-wrapped upper-dash panel and updated instrument cluster. The XLR retractable hardtop roadster offers fresh exterior styling cues along with additional luxury features. Powered by a 4.6L V8 engine delivering 320 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, the rear-wheel drive XLR is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual-style shifting. Cadillac XLR standard features ensure the two-door lives up to its luxury nameplate with a long list of amenities that includes keyless entry, heated and cooled front seats, premium Bose audio system, advanced navigation and a heads-up display that projects key driver information onto the windshield. EPA-estimated fuel mileage estimates rate 15 mpg city/24 mpg hwy and 18 mpg in combined driving. Standard safety features include antilock disc brakes, run-flat tires, stability control, rear parking sensors and side airbags that provide head and thorax protection.
The 2009 Cadillac XLR features a standard retractable hard top, which most of its competitors don't. The Cadillac is more elegantly simple than many of its peers, as well, with no complex driving electronics and no performance adjustments to be made. Its Corvette underpinnings make it a potent luxury drop-top on par with the Mercedes-Benz SL and Jaguar XK models.
Cadillac's wedgy XLR convertible sees few changes for 2009. Certain exterior colors and interior wood trim accents have been deleted, as have the 'Supercharged' emblem from the doors of the XLR-V model. The Platinum Edition becomes the base XLR.
The 2009 XLR and XLR-V remain Cadillac's high-end performance cars. Introduced in 2005 and using the Corvette as a point of inspiration, the XLR offers style and performance with generous amounts of leather and wood trim. It also has a softer suspension setup than many two-seaters in its class, which makes it much easier to live with day in and out than most of its rivals.
