More Chevrolet Impala standard features are the big news for 2009, including dual-zone climate control, front seat side airbags, antilock disc brakes and traction control. The Chevy Impala is a 6-passenger family sedan that is known for comfort, safety, fuel efficiency and smooth ride. The Impala LS and LT come with a 3.5L V6 engine that produces 211 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque. Standard on the 2LT and LTZ is a 3.9L V6 with 233 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. The Impala SS has a 5.3L V8 generating an impressive 303 hp and 323 lb-ft of torque. The 3.9 V6 and 5.3 V8 have Active Fuel Management technology to deactivate half of the cylinders when cruising to save fuel. All models have front-wheel drive and a 4-speed automatic transmission. Fuel mileage estimates for the V6 3.5L is 19 mpg city/29 mpg hwy and 23 mpg combined, while the 3.9L is only 1 mpg worse. The SS gets 16 city/24 hwy and 19 combined.
The Impala has a broad appeal for sedan buyers, thanks to a roomy interior, comfortable ride and a choice of several packages to vary the car's driving character that can range from sedate to sporty. It also remains one of the last sedans to offer, as a low-cost option, a bench seat in front; on the other hand, it's one of just a few front-wheel drive vehicles to offer an available V-8 engine.
For 2009, the Impala is carried over mostly unchanged, but it sees improved standard equipment, especially in the safety area. Thorax side airbags are newly standard across the model line, as are anti-lock brakes. Cup holders have been redesigned, Bluetooth hands-free calling connectivity is also newly available and dual-zone manual climate control is now standard.
The Impala is a large-size front-wheel drive sedan that comes in four different models ranging from simple to sporty. The base Impala LS comes with a 211 horsepower, 3.5-liter pushrod V-6 engine; optional on the LT and standard on the luxurious LTZ is a 224-horsepower, 3.9-liter V-6. At the top of the range is the high-performance SS, powered by a 303-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8.
