A carryover from 2009, the Honda S2000 two-seat roadster is available in its base version or the Club Racer (CR), which is endowed with racetrack-oriented suspension, welcomed rigidity and light weight, aerodynamic design. Propelled by a 2.2L inline 4-cylinder engine generating 237 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission, the Honda S2000 is known for its sports-car performance. Honda S2000 standard features include 17-inch wheels, leather seats, keyless entry, CD audio system, stability control and HID headlights. The base trim is equipped with a power-operated top with a glass rear window, while the CR features a lightweight removable aluminum hardtop and eschews air conditioning and stereo in favor of lighter weight. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 18 mpg city/25 mpg hwy. Among the safety features are a seatbelt automatic tensioning system, dual front airbags, side-impact door beams, vehicle stability assist with traction, brake assist, daytime running lights and a seat belt reminder system.
The Honda S2000 is a hard-core racer for those looking for a hard-edged super-handling car that is right at home on the track. Its quick yet quiet 16-valve 2.2L DOHC 4-cylinder VTEC engine offers surprising acceleration and a more visceral experience than its heavier, more luxurious competitors.
The S2000 remains largely unchanged for 2009. Base prices rose about $700 over 2008.
The 2009 Honda S2000 is a compact, 2-seat roadster sports car. The 2.2L 4-cylinder VTEC engine paired with a 6-speed short throw manual transmission gives the S2000 astonishing power at the top of its tachometer producing 237-horsepower at 7800 rpms. With rear-wheel drive, the S2000 has an ideal 50/50 weight distribution, along with front and rear double-wishbone suspension, electric power steering and a torque-sensing, limited-slip rear differential for superb handling on curvy, challenging roads. With a curb weight below 3,000 pounds, the S2000 squeezes surprisingly fast acceleration from its VTEC 4-cylinder engine; it's been tested as accelerating to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds.
