Notable for the 2009 Mercedes-Benz C-Class are two new seat-mounted pelvic airbags bringing the number of airbags to eight. C300 models are powered by a 3.0L V6 generating 228 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque, paired to a seven-speed automatic that is standard on the C300 Luxury and optional on the C300 Sport. The C-Class comes with rear-wheel drive. The C350 Sport features a 3.5L V6 that pumps out 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, with the seven-speed automatic being the only transmission option. C350 fuel economy estimates are 17 mpg city/25 mpg hwy and 20 mpg combined, while a rear-wheel-drive C300 with an automatic transmission gets rating in 18/25/21 mpg range. The rear-wheel-drive C63 AMG is powered by a 6.3L V8 that packs 451 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy ratings are 12 mpg city/19 mpg hwy and 15 mpg combined. Standard Mercedes C-Class safety equipment includes front side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, active front head restraints, stability and traction control and adaptive antilock brakes.
The Mercedes-Benz C-Class models cover a lot of ground depending on the specific trim. In Sport trim, the C-Class is closer to a sport sedan than it has ever been, competing head on with the BMW 3-Series and Infiniti G35. But in Luxury trim, the C300 has a softer, more settled feel and has the poise and comfort of a larger sedan. With a total of eight airbags, the V6 C-Class models now offer more safety features than its rivals, while the C63 AMG still stands out as one of the fastest high-performance vehicles available.
After a complete redesign for 2008, the C-Class receives additional equipment for '09, and new 4MATIC all-wheel drive models are available for the C300. Pelvic airbags for front occupants are now standard on C300 and C350 models. Also new is a Bluetooth interface and auxiliary connector for iPods and audio devices. Grey/black and burl walnut interior trims are also newly available for 2009.
The Mercedes-Benz compact C-Class sport sedan is available in the U.S. with three different engines. C300 models have a 228-horsepower, 3.0L V6 engine, while C350 models get a 268-horsepower, 3.5L V6. The high-performance, limited-production C63 AMG comes with a 451-horsepower, 6.3L V8.
