Largely unchanged from last year, the 2009 Nissan Rogue SL is now accented by new optional features, including speed-sensing door locks, a dual-level center console tray, a fold-down front passenger seat, mood lighting, a trip computer, an outside temperature display and cargo hooks. A compact crossover with seating for five, the Nissan Rogue is powered by a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that generates 170 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque, with the mandatory Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) and either four-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. Fuel economy for the front-wheel-drive Rogue is an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city/27 mpg hwy and 24 mpg combined driving, while the AWD drops those numbers to 21/26/23 mpg. Nissan Rogue standard safety equipment includes stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes with brake assist, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and active front head restraints. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Rogue an almost perfect five stars for safety.
Based on the Nissan Sentra platform, the Rogue, Nissan says the Rogue is 'ideal for those who want a more enthusiastic driving experience'. A low starting price and practical SUV cargo capacity combined with good fuel economy make the Rogue a great urban runner. Mileage for the 2009 model is estimated at 22 city and 27 highway.
The 2009 Nissan Rogue is little changed from 2008, its premiere model year. This year's standard safety equipment includes anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, roof-mounted supplemental curtain bags with rollover detection and active front head restraints. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the Rogue a 5-star rating for driver protection and rear side-impact collisions. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Rogue a 'Good' ? its highest rating ? for both frontal-offset and side-impact crash tests.
The 2009 Rogue comes in just two trims, S and SL, and both are powered by a 2.5L inline-4 aluminum-block engine producing 170 horsepower, 175 pound/feet of torque and automatic 'shiftless' Xtronic CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), something Nissan perfected in the Maxima and Altima. Buyers can opt for either front-wheel drive or the all-wheel-drive system, which comes with yaw moment control for added stability on slippery road surfaces. On the SL, paddle shifters are available for those who want to control the CVT's shifts through a set of simulated gears.
