New for 2009, the Pontiac G3 is a five-door compact wagon that comes standard with air conditioning, CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers, auxiliary input jacks, fog lamps and OnStar. The front-wheel-drive Pontiac G3 is equipped with a 1.6L four-cylinder engine producing 106 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque paired to a five-speed manual transmission, while a four-speed automatic transmission with hold-control mode is optional. According to Pontiac, the fuel economy estimate for the G3 on the highway is 34 mpg. Pontiac G3 standard safety features include dual-stage frontal airbags, side-impact airbags and driver and right-front passenger airbags with the Passenger Sensing System. For such a small car, the five-passenger G3 makes efficient use of its space by stacking a load of standard features and options into its circumference and boasts turning diameter of just 34.6 feet wall-to-wall.
Fuel efficiency, space efficiency and value for the money are all factors central to the G3's appeal. The G3 will go on sale late in the 2009 model year and, although priced higher than the Aveo, will come with many more standard features and a sportier character inside and out to take on rivals like the Honda Fit and Scion xD. GM's five-year, 100,000-mile warranty and three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranties are standard.
The G3 is an all-new model in Pontiac's lineup--and the new lowest-priced offering from GM's sport-oriented brand.
A 1.6-liter four-cylinder is the only engine offered in the front-wheel-drive G3, and comes mated to either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Even though the engine only has 106 horsepower, it's refined and powerful enough with either transmission to move the 2500-pound G3.
