Primary changes for the 2009 Volkswagen Eos convertible are that the V6 engine has been dropped, and a new RNS Midline navigation system is now available. Volkswagen Eos standard features include a power retractable hardtop with integrated power sunroof activated by the push of a button. As a front-wheel-drive, two-door convertible with seating for four, the VW Eos is powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder turbocharged engine, discharging 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. The Komfort trim level provides a choice of a six-speed manual transmission or VW's six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) automated-clutch manual transmission, while the DSG is mandatory on the Lux trim level. EPA fuel economy ratings for the Eos with DSG are 21 mpg city/29 mpg hwy and 24 mpg in combined driving, and the manual transmission gets one more mpg for highway driving. Standard safety features include antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, and a full complement of airbags.
The four-cylinder 2009 Eos ranks as one of the best bargains among all convertibles, offering an upscale interior and a folding hardtop. The Eos boasts an extensive feature list that matches premium brand competitors while costing substantially less.
For 2009, Volkswagen's Eos convertible enters its third model year with some trim changes. The VR6 model has been dropped, as have the base Turbo models. Only the Komfort and the Lux model are available powered by the 2.0L turbo engine. White Gold Metallic arrives as a new exterior color, while Island Gray, Paprika Red, and Silver Essence have been dropped. Some high-tech options have been reshuffled, including making park distance control optional rather than standard on the Lux.
The Volkswagen Eos model lineup is composed of just two trim levels for 2009--Komfort and Lux. Both are powered by Volkswagen's venerable 2.0L inline-4, which has a direct-injection and a turbocharger that makes 200 horsepower and 207 ft-lb of torque. The Komfort is available as either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic, while the Lux comes only as an automatic. All Eos models are front-wheel drive.
