For 2009, the midsize Volvo S60 luxury sedan 2.5T is now accented by standard leather seats, a sunroof, a power passenger seat, an auto-dimming mirror and new wheel designs, while the T5 gets standard rear park assist, xenon headlights and a Dolby sound system. The S60 2.5T is powered by a light-pressure turbocharged 2.5L inline five-cylinder engine that pushes out 208 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque paired to a five-speed automatic transmission and comes with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Featuring a slightly smaller I5 2.4L engine with a higher-boost turbocharger generating 257 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, the S60 T5 is front-wheel drive only, with five-speed automatic standard or a six-speed manual optional. EPA-estimated fuel economy achieves 18 mpg city and 26 mpg hwy. Volvo S60 safety features include a collapsible steering column, dual-stage airbags for the driver and front passenger, a side-impact protection system, side-impact airbags for driver and front passenger, an inflatable curtain, head restraints for all seats, seatbelts with pre-tensioners and a whiplash protection system.
Even though the S60 has continued for many years now essentially unchanged--and is slated to be replaced by a redesigned version next year--styling is still a selling point for the S60, which has a look that stands out in a crowded parking lot. The S60 isn't bargain-priced relative to other vehicles in its class, but it does include much more standard equipment than rival vehicles; so if you want to have a very well equipped vehicle it's still a good deal. The 2.5T AWD model is a nice, luxurious car for those who have to frequently drive on slick roads, while the S60 is a great choice overall for long-haul drivers because of the top-notch seats.
For its last year before a major redesign, the mid-size S60 gets expanded standard features for 2009, although price across the line increase considerably. Sport leather seats, a power glass sunroof, and wood trim are now among the standard features, and Geartronic manual control is now included with the automatic transmission in all trims. T5 equipment is also stepped up, with all the contents of the former Advanced Package now standard; they include a 325-watt surround-sound system, 6-disc changer, brushed aluminum handles, active bi-xenon headlamps, and rear park assist.
The S60 is Volvo's mid-size sedan and comes in two distinct flavors--S60 and S60 T5. The S60 is comfortable yet quite sporty, and comes in either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive versions, both powered by a 208-horsepower, 2.5-liter turbocharged 5-cylinder engine. Enthusiasts will probably want to opt for the T5, because it includes a 258-hp, 2.4-liter version of 5-cylinder engine, plus upgraded wheels and tires, other mechanical upgrades, and a host of luxury and high-tech extras.
