Hyundai has created what it hopes will become the new benchmark for affordable performance with the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. The coupe is offered with two all-aluminum engine choices: a 220 hp 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder and a 310 hp 3.8L V6. Both come standard with a six-speed manual, though a five-speed automatic is available with the 2.0L and a six-speed ZF automatic can be had with the 3.8L. Hyundai's focus on lightweight construction results in relatively low curb weights of 3549 lbs. for the V6 and 3439 lbs. for the 4-cylinder. To further increase both performance and safety, the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe can be ordered with a Brembo brake package that includes 13.4 inch front and 13.0 inch rear rotors with monobloc four piston calipers all around. The rear-wheel-drive Genesis Coupe is powered either by a 2.0-liter turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder engine or a 306-horsepower, 3.8-liter V6. Both engines come with a standard 6-speed manual transmission or optional Shiftronic automatic, including steering-wheel paddle-shifters. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance.
