Presenting more of an emphasis for interior space than any product in the Audi lineup, 2011 A8 L sedan provides an extra 4.2 inches of rear legroom over the conventional Audi A8. Receiving revised headlamps and other exterior design cues, the structure of the Audi A8 L adds more than 5 inches longer total than the typical 2011 A8, but only weighs 44 additional pounds. Unique to the Audi A8 L model is a high polish black lower inlay and a 4-spoke steering wheel design providing notably original interior experience. The Audi Convenience Package featuring keyless entry and an advanced parking system with rear-view camera is standard on the 2011 Audi A8 L sedan. Enjoying Audi's quattro all-wheel drive, 2011 A8 is powered by an enhanced 4.2 liter V-8 engine pumping out a commanding 372 horsepower. An option to the 2011 Audi A8 L is the executive rear seating package which features a power-adjustable, massaging rear seat as well as a 10.4 liter refrigerator.
The long-wheelbase version of the A8, the A8L, is now slightly longer than the BMW 7-Series, Lexus LS or Mercedes-Benz S-Class, bringing an exceptionally roomy interior. The A8 still manages to feel more nimble and responsive than would ever be expected for such a large vehicle. With its new, stronger powertrain, the A8 not only performs better but achieves EPA highway rating of 27 mpg--near the head of the pack among large luxury sedans. A number of other tech features, such as the industry-first full LED headlamps and the next-generation touchpad MMI interface inside, are market standouts.
Audi's flagship A8 large luxury sedan is all-new for 2011, with new engines, a slightly longer cabin for more interior space, more options for traditional luxury-car comfort, and of course various technological advances--including a stiffer, lightweight body; reduced fuel consumption; a reconfigured, more performance-oriented version of quattro all-wheel drive. Several new driver-safety systems such as night vision and automatic emergency braking have been included for 2011.
A direct-injected 4.2L V8 engine making 372 horsepower and 328 pound-feet of torque is standard on A8 and S8L models. The A8L W12 FSI, to be available later in the model year, gets a direct-injected, 450-hp, 6.3-liter W12 engine. The A8 can get to 62 mph in 5.7 seconds, while the A8L W12 takes just 4.9 seconds. All A8 models come with quattro all-wheel drive, which is calibrated to feel sporty and enhance cornering confidence yet also take on slippery road conditions. The system can send 60 percent of torque to the rear wheels during normal driving, or more to whichever wheels have the best traction.
