The 2011 BMW X3 starts off the model year with a refreshed external appearance accented by sharper bodywork and a bigger front grill. Operating on BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system exclusively, dynamic stability control assures surefooted road handling. Standard features on the 2011 BMW X3 includes HD Radio, tire pressure monitor, power seating and automatic climate control. A number of option packages allow features such as HID headlamps, Dynamic Damper Control, panoramic sunroof and iDrive-controlled navigation system to be added to the 2011 BMW X3. A Cold Weather Package adds heated front and rear seats as well as a headlight washer system. With only one engine available in 2010, the revised 2011 BMW X3 offers a choice of either a 3-liter inline-6 producing 255 horsepower or a turbocharged version producing 300 horsepower. Guided by a new 8-speed automatic, the high-performance 2011 BMW X3 achieves 22.5 miles per gallon through average city and highway driving.
This sport-luxury crossover has a lot of competition, but the X3 fares especially well when it comes to horsepower and performance from its 6-liter engine in either turbocharged or naturally aspirated form. BMW's EfficientDynamics technologies boost the X3's mileage to 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The X3's starting price is still well under $40,000.
The redesign of the 2011 X3 is a fresh new look and brings the X3 into line with the rest of BMW's vehicles. The 2011 X3 a tad larger than the 2010 version, with an extra three inches in length and one inch in width, yet the price drops about $2000 on the X3 iDrive28i. North America doesn't get the all-new diesel engine -- yet -- but the 3-liter gasoline engine is available with a turbocharger. A new 5-link rear axle system improves the X3's ride, while BMW's evolving iDrive system has finally become intuitive to use.
There are two versions of the X3, the 240-hp xDrive28i and the turbocharged, 300-hp xDrive35i. Both feature all-wheel drive, start-stop technology, hill descent control and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The new 5-link rear axle gives the X3 a much smoother ride than previously, and its new shape creates more cargo space.
