The 2011 Buick Regal is an all new car for GMs Buick division. Based on the European Opel Insignia 4-door, five passenger sedan and dubbed "the Enthusiasts Buick", the Regal is powered by a 182 hp direct-injection 2.4-liter Ecotec four-cylinder. A 220 hp, 2.0-liter turbo will be available in late 2010. A first for Buick in many years is a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. Even with all this performance, fuel economy is estimated to be 18mpg city and 29mpg highway with the automatic. This new Buick Regal promises a high quality, sophisticated interior; numerous technology options, with a sporty ride and handling.
The Regal is sized slightly smaller than mainstream mid-size sedans like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord or Nissan Altima but a little larger than mid-size performance/luxury sedans like the Acura TSX or Volvo S60. At a price that's well below those premium brand sedans, GM is pitching the Buick--especially the performance-oriented GS--as a sporty alternative. That said, with a very full range of standard convenience and safety features, plus a fashionable new look, the Regal CXL is safe and sporty, yet still comfortable, alternative for families who see the mainstream offerings as a little too boring.
Although the Regal name has been used before, it's being brought back for an entirely new sedan that has very little in common with the previous vehicles of the same name. The Buick Regal is a sporty, internationally tuned luxury sedan that will go on sale for 2011. It is an all-new mid-size sedan, to be powered by a new generation of powerful and economical 4-cylinder engines.
GM will offer the 2011 Buick Regal with two different engines: a 182-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder on the CXL and a 220-hp, 2.0-liter four on the sporty GS model, set to go on sale later this summer. Both variants are hooked up to a 6-speed automatic transmission in this front-wheel-drive sedan.
