Introduced in 1999 and completely redesigned in 2007, the 2011 Cadillac Escalade is the gold-standard in full-size luxury SUVs. An advanced 403-hp, 6.2-liter Vortec V8 with varible valve timing and active fuel management powers the Escalade while a smooth shifting 6-speed automatic transmission helps achieve up to 14/20 mpg city/hwy. Rear-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive optional and maximum towing is 5000-lbs properly equipped. A number of exclusive features set Escalade apart from the competition including the first use of magnetic ride control on a full-size SUV and first use in any automobile of energy efficient full LED adaptive headlamps. Inside 8-passengers are treated to hand stitched Tehama leather, genuine olive ash wood trim, Bluetooth, NAV and DVD entertainment, a side blind zone warning system, heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel and heated/cooled cup holders among many other features. Notable competetors include Lexus LX 570 and Mercedes-Benz GL Class.
The Cadillac Escalade has a lot in common with GM's other full-size SUVs-- the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon/XL, underneath--but you wouldn't know it inside. The Escalade's cabin is one of the most impressive, opulent interiors offered in an SUV, and ride quality and overall interior quality are top-notch. All the more impressive is the way the Escalade performs and handles considering its size and weight. The Hybrid version, although more expensive, doesn't give up any of the standard Escalade's luxury, handling, or ride quality, but does manage to get up to 50% better fuel economy.
The Escalade enters 2011 with no significant changes.
The Escalade includes three different models--the standard Escalade and extended-length Escalade ESV, which are luxurious sport-utility vehicles; and the Escalade EXT, which includes most of the attributes of the Escalade SUV but offers a pickup bed.
