Chevrolet's return to the pony car war has led to early success of the retro-styled Camaro. The 2011 Chevrolet Camaro coupe returns in LS, LT and the high-powered SS model. Joining the hardtop version in 2011, a Camaro convertible will be on sale in LT and SS trim. 6-way power driver's seat, air conditioning and XM satellite radio are standard on all 2011 Camaro models. The 3.6 liter direct-injected V-6 engine continues as the base powerplant of the Chevrolet Camaro LS and LT models but has received a performance bump to 312 horsepower for the 2011 model year. Combined with either the standard 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic transmission, highway fuel mileage of the 2011 Camaro is rated up to 29 miles per gallon. Given distinct 20-inch wheel and body panels, the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS models come with the 6.2 liter V-8 powerplant. Pumping out 400 horsepower when the 2011 Camaro SS models is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission while a 6-speed manual gearbox sees performance of the 6.2 liter increase to 426 horsepower. For the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro, OnStar Directions and Connections is standard with a six-month trial subscription.
GM wants to appeal to nostalgic buyers wanting to revive their muscle-car past with the Camaro. It's also a hard-edged sports car or modern touring coupe, depending on how it's configured. The new Camaro is priced to be a sports car for the everyman, with V6 models starting at less than $25,000.
For 2011, Chevrolet's retro-inspired Camaro sees more power from its V6 engine, up 8 horsepower over 2010's 304. A new head-up display will also be available, as well as factory-installed 'hockey stick' stripes in black, white, or gray. Yellow paint is now an extra-cost option.
The 2011 Camaro gets three different available engines under its hood. On LS and LT models, a 312-horsepower 3.6-liter, direct-injected V6 is standard. This engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 6-speed automatic with TapShift manual control. On SS models, there's a high-output LS3 engine available. It's a 6.2-liter V8 making 422 horsepower and 408 pound-feet of torque. SS models equipped with the 6-speed automatic transmission get a lower-output 400-horsepower L99 6.2-liter engine featuring GM's Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation system.
