Carrying over from 2010 with only an the upgrade to OnStar Gen 9.0, Aqua Blue Metallic paint color and a headrest redesign added, the 2011 Chevrolet Colorado compact pickup continues to offer itself in Regular, Extended and Crew Cab body styles. Work Truck and LT trim levels are available with the regular as well as extended cab 2011 Colorado models. Equipped with a 5-cylinder, 3.7 liter engine producing 242 horsepower mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, the 2011 Chevrolet Colorado Work Truck offer standard features such as Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, air conditioning and tire pressure monitoring system. Adding the Crew Cab model, the LT trim level Chevrolet Colorado compact trucks all come standard with a 2.9 liter four-cylinder engine. A five-speed manual transmission is standard with an automatic optional. A 310 horsepower, 5.3 liter V-8 can be included on the 2011 Colorado LT in both Extended and Crew Cab body configurations. Rear-wheel and four-wheel drivetrains can be combined with all engines.

Model Review

There are three body styles for the Colorado: regular cab, long-wheelbase extended cab and 4-door crew cab. Each of these is available in rear-wheel or 4-wheel drive. There are three engines available: a 185-hp, 2.9-liter 4-cylinder, which is standard on all but the crew cab, a 242-hp, 3.7-liter 5-cylinder engine and a 300-hp 5.3-liter V8. These can then be coupled with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests:

Driver Crash Grade:

Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury.

Passenger Crash Grade:

Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger.

Rollover Resistance:

Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover.

Side Impact Crash Test - Front:

Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.

Side Impact Crash Test - Rear:

Similar to the front side impact test only now the focus is on the rear passenger.
