The 2011 Ford Flex continues with minor changes for this year receiving new powertrain options for 2010. Available with a 3.5-liter 262 hp V6 in FWD or AWD or optional 3.5-liter 355 hp Twin-Turbo EcoBoost V6 with AWD, both are linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shift controls and achieve up to 17/24 mpg city/hwy. The 7-passenger family hauler features optional leather seating, rear seat DVD entertainment, automatic park assist, Ford's Sync system, and a blind spot information system. The Flex can be equipped to tow up to 4500 lbs and is becoming a viable alternative to larger SUVs. What's new for 2011?

The big news for the 2011 Ford Flex is the addition of a new trim level, called Titanium. It takes over as the new range topping model, adding blackout treatment for headlights and taillights, black chrome grille, moldings and trim, polished aluminum 20-inch wheels, Charcoal black leather seats with Alcantara suede inserts, and four special exterior colors: Red Candy, White Platinum, Tuxedo Black and Ingot Silver with black roof.

Model Review

Ford plans to put its new EcoBoost engine in 90% of its vehicles by 2013, starting with the Ford Flex and the LINCOLN MKS and LINCOLN MKT. The 3.5L V6 is turbocharged and direct-injected, the first of its kind to be built in North America. Its power is comparable to a normally aspirated 4.6L V8 while getting V6 gas mileage.

A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.
