The full-sized GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck enters the 2011 model year with only minor changes which includes a new exterior color called Gray Green Metallic and better cabin insulation from road noise. Five trim levels of catered equipment packages sees the 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 as the Work Truck, SL, SLE, XFE or Denali. Coming with a 4.3 liter V-6 engine as either a regular, extended or crew cab body styles, the 2011 Sierra 1500 Work Truck maintains a simple array of features including air conditioning and tilt steering column. Available with only gasoline power plants, the 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 V-8 engines are all E85 compatible. The 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 XFE crew cab is powered by a 315 horsepower, 5.3 liter Vortec V-8 but fitted with fuel-saving technology including a low ratio final gear and low-rolling resistance tires. Fuel mileage for the XFE version is leading among the 2011 GMC Sierra lineup producing 15 city and 22 highway. The high-end 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali edition is lavishly equipped with nuance leather along and a 6.2 liter V-8 worth 403 horsepower. A six-disc CD changer, Bose premium speaker system and ultrasonic rear parking assist are included in the Denali trim.

Model Review

GMC continues to offer two completely different interiors for its Sierra 1500 family of pickups: Work Truck, SL and SLE trims get a so-called 'pure pickup interior' that includes larger door handles and controls that are designed to be used with gloves on, while the SLT trim gets the same luxurious, softer, and more carlike interior that's used in the GMC Yukon. The SLT instrument panel is a bit lower to afford a better outward view, and several special color and trim themes are offered with the SLT exclusively.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs independent crash testing of new vehicles and then assigns them a score based on their performance. The overall crash test rating is based on how a vehicle performs in the following tests: Driver Crash Grade: Measures the chance of a serious injury to a crash test dummy that is placed in a driver's seat and driven into a fixed barrier at 35 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less chance of injury. Passenger Crash Grade: Similar to the driver crash grade, only now the focus is on the passenger. Rollover Resistance: Simulates an emergency lane change to measure the likelihood of a vehicle rolling over. A five-star rating means there is 10 percent or less risk of rollover. Side Impact Crash Test - Front: Focuses on the front side of a vehicle. It simulates crashes that can occur in intersections by striking a 3,015-pound weight against the side of a vehicle at 38.5 MPH. A five-star rating means there is 5 percent or less chance of injury.
